BlockTexx joins Seamless stewardship scheme

Textile recovery leader BlockTexx joins Seamless stewardship scheme to drive textile recycling solution for Australia’s clothing industry

May 7, 2025

Award winning clean technology company BlockTexx® has signed on as a supporter of Seamless, Australia’s clothing stewardship scheme to help drive sustainability and circularity in the Australian clothing industry.

In 2023, 1.44 billion items of new clothing were imported into Australia, most of which were made from non-renewable and environmentally problematic materials. More than half of this, 222,000 tonnes, ended up in landfill in Australia.

As a stewardship scheme, Seamless recognises that the brands who make or import our clothes are responsible for their entire lifespan. The scheme is funded by a contribution paid by the responsible clothing brands and retailers who are Seamless members. The funds raised are then invested to support circular clothing design, foster new circular business models, expand clothing collection and sorting for effective reuse and recycling, and encourage all Australians to think differently about their clothes.

Ainsley Simpson, CEO of Seamless said, “We're really excited to welcome BlockTexx as a Seamless supporter. As an Australian technology company that supports innovative recycling of clothing and textiles, their expertise and experience will be valuable as we all strive for continuous improvement and a brighter more circular future for the clothing industry."

The Seamless roadmap to circularity is a plan to transform how clothing is made, used, reused and recycled in Australia to create clothing circularity by 2030. Textile recycling is an essential pillar, and Australia is uniquely positioned to lead the world with BlockTexx’s Australian-developed technology.

BlockTexx® operates a chemical recycling process for hard-to-recycle polyester and cotton blends that produces recycled material that can be used in clothing and a range of additional industries. With a 10,000tpa scaled facility in Queensland, BlockTexx® is Australia’s largest textile recovery operation and the largest commercial scale chemical recycling plant in the world.

The BlockTexx® S.O.F.T.™ (separation of fibre technology) process delivers fibre-to-fibre for new clothing, fibre-to-product for use in manufacturing, and fibre-to-agriculture applications. The BlockTexx® process ensures that end of life textiles are recognised for their ongoing value, diverted away from landfill and converted back into materials for remanufacturing Australian products onshore.

BlockTexx® co-founder Graham Ross said, “We are delighted to join as a Seamless supporter and bring BlockTexx’s real world textile resource recovery expertise to the national clothing stewardship scheme. The fashion and textile industry is at an inflexion point due to the limited focus on end-of-life solutions. Seamless is driving positive action by bringing together stakeholders across the clothing value chain. The BlockTexx onshore recycling process creates high value products PolyTexx® and CellTexx® to deliver true circularity through recycled textiles back into the local industry.”

By becoming a Seamless supporter, BlockTexx® will help the clothing industry to become a circular economy leader, setting an example for other industries locally and globally, and will also contribute to the ongoing development of a thriving textile remanufacturing industry.
